Monroe County ICE Custody Structure
Monroe County Jail ICE detainee beds are not an ICE-owned prison and not a separate federal facility. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office operates county jail beds that may be used for people held under federal immigration authority. The county's ICE Detainees page confirms this local federal layer. The Sheriff's data configuration also includes ICE, U.S. Border Patrol, and USMS among held-for agencies.
That split in authority determines where each record lives. The Sheriff creates the county booking and release event. ICE controls the continuing immigration-custody record and placement after a handoff. A court record may explain a criminal case, but it does not replace an immigration-custody check. No standalone ICE detention center should be invented in Monroe County.

The general Monroe County release search paths cover ordinary county, state, and court events. An ICE-held row requires this added receiving-authority check because the county portal does not document the full federal path after the booking closes.
ICE Locator After Monroe Release

The interface also offers biographical fields for eligible searches. An exact identifier is safer than a name because people can share names and spelling may differ across records.
A positive current result can identify an ICE custody location or contact path. A no-result is not affirmative proof that the person was released. Some people are outside the public locator's coverage, a new transfer may not appear at once, and a recently released person may disappear. The next step is the ICE detention information and help route, including the Detroit ERO channel where the case belongs. No Detroit address or direct number is supplied here because the Monroe research did not verify one.

Monroe County ICE Release Records
The Monroe County Sheriff's Records Division is the archival fallback for the county-created part of the event. Ask for an existing booking and release record tied to a full name, date of birth if known, and approximate booking date. Useful fields include booking number, booking and release date or time, release disposition or reason, agency held for, charge or hold entries, and receiving agency.

Request the existing record rather than asking the office to create a new release certificate. Invite redaction of exempt parts and production of the segregable release-event fields.
That request will not force ICE to produce a separate federal file. It reaches records held by the Monroe County public body. Federal immigration records and current detention questions stay with the relevant federal process. Keep each request narrow enough to identify the event and agency.
Monroe ICE Federal Handoffs
Both adult Monroe County corrections facilities hold federal detainees for ICE and USMS, according to the Sheriff's annual reporting. The portal's held-for list also includes U.S. Border Patrol. These facts make the local transfer warning concrete: an ended county booking can lead directly into continuing federal custody.
The source agency matters more than the label "released." The Sheriff's record can establish when Monroe County stopped holding the person and may identify a receiving agency. ICE then controls information about immigration detention. If USMS controlled a federal pretrial matter, the federal court docket and custodian are better routes because USMS does not publish a general historical inmate locator. BOP is for sentenced federal prisoners, not each person in federal pretrial custody.
Do not use OTIS to follow this path unless MDOC is separately involved. OTIS is Michigan's state corrections system. Likewise, Michigan VINE may provide a participating-custodian alert but is not a substitute for ICE's current locator or the county release record.

ICE Property After Monroe Release
Monroe County's Inmate Guidebook contains a special rule for unclaimed ICE detainee property. The property is turned over to ICE, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office will not accept or release that ICE detainee property without approval from the Detroit Field Office. This rule reinforces the custody distinction because the federal authority may control the next step even after the county booking ends.
A family member should not assume that property can be collected under the ordinary county pickup process after an ICE handoff. First confirm which authority has the property. Then follow the approval route stated by the custodian. The official Inmate Guidebook is the county source for the restriction.
No fixed release hour, exit door, family waiting area, or transport service was found in the official Monroe material. Call the county facility about the county event and use ICE's authorized route about the federal stage. Do not promise a pickup time from a date-only result.
Monroe ICE Record Boundaries
Three negative searches can all mean different things. No county portal result can reflect an unknown date or public display limit. No ICE locator result can reflect current-system coverage or timing. No court result can reflect display limits or the wrong court. None is enough, alone, to prove release.
Positive data also needs care. A Monroe release date is positive evidence that the displayed booking ended. An ICE locator result is positive evidence about the federal system's current response. A court order can establish legal authority, yet another hold may still block community release. The strongest account aligns the booking event, held-for agency, receiving system, and case record.
Record the dates in sequence. The Sheriff's date should come first when it closes the county booking, followed by any ICE locator or agency confirmation about the federal stage. Keeping the two events separate avoids assigning a federal location to the county or calling a county handoff a final release.
Juvenile matters do not belong in this adult path. The Monroe County Youth Center follows separate juvenile access rules, and its records should not be inferred from an adult portal search. For an adult ICE-held booking, remain with the Sheriff and federal sources that created the record.
