Monroe Dormitory Release Paths
The East Dunbar dormitory is the minimum-security and classified-inmate component of the Monroe County Sheriff's corrections system. A person can leave it in more than one sense. Return to the community may follow bond, time served, sentence completion, or another court order. A move to the Main Jail changes placement but does not end county custody. Transfer to MDOC, another county, ICE, or the U.S. Marshals Service closes the local placement while another custodian may take control.
That distinction shapes every search. The dormitory does not publish its own current roster or released-person list. Its records flow through the same Zuercher portal and Sheriff Records Division used for the Main Jail. The public result may show a release date without a full destination. Court entries and the held-for agency then explain whether the person went home, began supervision, or remained detained elsewhere.

Read Monroe Dormitory Release Results
A portal result is useful same-agency evidence when it includes a positive release date. Yet it is only part of the operational record. A complete request can seek the booked name, date of birth, booking number, arrest time, releasing facility, exact release time, release reason, bond information, held-for agency, receiving authority, and property disposition. Requesting one person and one approximate booking is easier to search and price than asking for every release in a broad period.
The court record addresses legal authority. District Court can show misdemeanor actions, bond, and early felony proceedings. Circuit Court records felony disposition and sentence after bind-over. Neither online court path necessarily records the exact time someone crossed the jail threshold. Conversely, the Sheriff's release date does not prove a charge was dismissed. Compare both records, especially when the result involves bond, time served, or a state commitment.
The portal's held-for field supplies another required check. A result tied to MDOC, ICE, USMS, Border Patrol, a neighboring county, or another police agency can close the Dormitory part of the booking while custody continues elsewhere. Record the agency label with the release date, then use that authority's system. If the destination remains unclear, ask Sheriff Records for the release reason and receiving agency instead of guessing from the date alone.

Request Monroe Dormitory Records
The dormitory telephone answers facility questions, but the central Sheriff Records Division handles the county records route. Michigan FOIA covers existing public records. It does not require the Sheriff to create a custom release certificate or answer a list of questions. Describe the existing booking and release record, give strong identifiers, ask for electronic delivery if suitable, and invite redaction of exempt material instead of withholding the whole responsive record.
Michigan's response structure allows a grant, denial, partial grant, no-record notice, or one extension of up to ten additional business days. Permitted charges can include search, review, separation, duplication, media, and postage. The lowest-paid capable employee standard and statutory fee rules apply. A qualifying indigent requester may seek the first-$20 reduction by affidavit. No fixed price for a Dormitory release record is stated in the research.

Monroe Dormitory Release History
The Sheriff's history of the jail places the dormitory in Monroe County's sixth generation of correctional facilities. The county bought 155 acres on East Dunbar Road in 1999 and began construction that September. The original project included two 80-person dormitory units and an administrative support unit built with future expansion in mind. Later reporting gives the dormitory a rated capacity of 180.
Those facts explain why facility names can mislead a search. The Main Jail and Dormitory are distinct buildings with separate information lines, but they are one public lookup and records system. A relocation between them does not create the release event a family member may be trying to confirm. Look for the booking's actual Release Date and destination instead of inferring release from a change in building.
The Sheriff's 2025 report counted 4,360 people processed across corrections and listed a combined adult rated capacity of 363. Neither number is a Dormitory release count. Processed describes intake activity, while capacity describes available places in the two buildings. A recent-release question still must be answered one booking at a time through the Release Date field and the agency record.
Federal Holds After Dormitory Release
The Sheriff's 2025 annual report says both adult corrections facilities hold detainees for ICE and the U.S. Marshals Service. The county portal's held-for list includes those agencies and U.S. Border Patrol. This is a genuine Monroe County release wrinkle. A Dormitory release date may mark the handoff point from the Sheriff to federal custody rather than a return to the community.
For ICE, search the Online Detainee Locator with the A-number and country of birth when available, or use the biographical path allowed by the interface. A no-result remains inconclusive. For a sentenced federal prisoner, use the BOP Inmate Locator. A USMS pretrial detainee may have no BOP profile, so the federal court docket and known custodian are better sources. Never infer an immigration hold from identity traits.
Monroe's Guidebook says ICE detainee property requires Detroit Field Office approval and may be turned over to ICE. That detail reinforces the custody transfer. Property control can continue with the receiving authority after the county booking closes.
After a Monroe Dormitory Release
Release can leave local tasks behind. The Guidebook says released mail is not held or forwarded. A person with funds left in a tablet account must contact ICS Customer Care through GettingOut.com or 866-516-0115 for a refund. For an MDOC transfer, the person identifies someone to collect property, and the guide gives that collector 45 days before disposal may occur. These are practical loose ends, not evidence of the release reason.
No official source states a fixed East Dunbar release hour, exit door, waiting zone, weekend schedule, rideshare rule, or county-provided ride. Call the Dormitory about a particular imminent release without assuming a time. For custody proof, stay with the portal, Records Division, court, and receiving agency.
